Tànger 66, Barcelona

Barcelona

2018

We immediately saw the potential for reuse rather than rebuilding in this 1960s warehouse in the rapidly regenerating 22@ district of Barcelona. We steered Tànger 66 away from the slicker finishes of its neighbours, towards a raw industrial aesthetic.

Originally heavily industrialised, this part of the Spanish city is now regenerating to a sustainable, socially centred model which has attracted many global technology businesses. Our redevelopment of the building was intended to attract tenants from this sector.

Full-height glazing to the reception area has animated the building at pavement level for the first time, with visitors drawn in to a large, welcoming space where the anatomy of the building’s structure is on show.

"Rather than reaching for the wrecking ball, Buckley Gray Yeoman’s vision was clever yet inspiring; making the most of the existing structure and celebrating its industrial heritage. The result is a delightful piece of architecture that has transformed the area."
